Ashford Group Replaces MetLife With Voya; Supplemental Life Limit Reaches $500,000
The October 1 workplace-plan change brings eligible associates a higher listed employee purchase option than Remington’s earlier guide. The August annual-enrollment window, however, has closed.
Ashford Group of Companies’ 2026–27 benefits plan begins October 1 with Voya replacing MetLife for workplace basic and supplemental life insurance. Eligible associates can elect employee supplemental coverage in $10,000 increments up to $500,000. That figure is the highest listed purchase amount, not coverage automatically granted to each worker.
The earlier Remington benefits guide named MetLife and listed employee supplemental choices of $50,000, $100,000 or $200,000. Ashford’s new guide lists $500,000 at the top. Under the new plan, full-time associates receive basic life and accidental death and dismemberment coverage at no cost; supplemental life is an elective purchase.
Coverage choices and insurer
Employee elections above $250,000 require evidence of insurability. Ashford’s guide also lists spouse coverage choices of $50,000, $100,000 or $150,000, subject to stated insurability conditions, and $10,000 in child coverage.
Ashford names Voya as the plan carrier. Voya says its group term life insurance is issued by ReliaStar Life Insurance Company, or ReliaStar Life Insurance Company of New York for New York-issued coverage. Ashford’s guide does not specify which legal company issues its group contract.
Enrollment after August
The October 1 effective date does not reopen annual enrollment, which ran August 17–28. Ashford says existing elections carry forward. Its opportunity for associates who had previously waived coverage to elect up to $250,000 without medical questions applied during that enrollment period.
The guide separately says new hires can elect up to $250,000 without medical questions, while employees seeking to enroll later after declining coverage at initial eligibility ordinarily face evidence-of-insurability review. Ashford’s enrollment instructions give newly eligible associates 31 days from eligibility to enroll and describe qualifying-life-event rules for changes during the plan year.
