Northwestern Mutual Adds Family Office Services for Clients Worth at Least $50 Million

A team of more than 40 in-house specialists will support advisors on tax, legacy, investments and business planning. The launch changes the service offering, not stated policy guarantees.

Northwestern Mutual announced Family Office Services on September 29, 2026, for clients with at least $50 million in net worth. The company says more than 40 in-house specialists will work alongside its advisors. For policyowners whose insurance decisions intersect with estate or business planning, the added service offers a way to address those decisions alongside other financial questions.

Northwestern Mutual says the specialists will support advisors and their teams nationwide across legal, tax, investment, banking and lending, legacy, risk-management and business-planning services. The $50 million threshold refers to net worth, rather than an insurance policy’s face amount, its premium or a client’s investable assets. The announcement does not say everyone above that threshold is automatically enrolled.

Planning support, not a new policy guarantee

The change is to the support available through an advisor relationship. Northwestern Mutual did not announce a revision to policy guarantees, dividends, premiums or insurance benefits as part of this launch. The specialist headcount describes the company’s team, not the number of people assigned to any individual client.

A client interested in the service can ask their advisor which specialists could help with their circumstances and how that support would be arranged. The announcement does not specify individual enrollment terms or whether a separate fee applies.
